Greetings fellow AHS members and daylily friends,

The topic of how to get new members and keep our current members is discussed not only in the AHS Board room, but at our Regional meetings and on the E-mail robin. At last week's MWS - the wonderful Region 10 winter meeting - this topic was discussed, and I told several people there that I would post Joe Goudeau's letter which was sent out last year to club presidents all over the country. You can read Joe's letter which is attached here . It is also posted in the Community forums under Building Clubs. Please take time to read it if you haven't seen it before or even if you have. Building membership starts with each one of us at the club level, one person at the time.

I have a couple of announcements which you may know of already. The first is that we have a site for the 2015 National Convention, thanks to two Region 5 clubs in the Atlanta, GA area - the Cobb County club and the Greater Atlanta club. Thanks to these region 5 folks for stepping up. But please know that we want to keep having National conventions every year and we really, really need other interested clubs to volunteer NOW to host the 2016 and 2017 National Conventions, as these events take time to plan. Please contact our AHS Convention chair, Eddie Raye Andrews, if interested at : conventions@dayliies.org.

The AHS is willing to work with clubs in any way possible to enable them to host a National meeting, so please get more information if you are interested. There will be a forum on Convention planning at this year's National meeeting in Columbus, which will be a great place to learn more.

Finally, if you are a garden judge or an exhibition judge, please be aware that we have two SEPARATE handbooks for 2012. Every judge should be using these new handbooks beginning now as the old one is obsolete. We are currently getting pricing and shipping information and will soon be able to offer these new handbooks in the Online Store, so please check there over the next few weeks. You can also download the handbooks FREE from the AHS website until July 1st and then all of the judges materials will be located here on the AHS Portal.

I hope you all are enjoying the Scavenger Hunt and the "Ask A Hybridizer" feature on the Portal. Beginning with the Spring 2012 issue, you will be able to read the Daylily Journal here on the Portal too!

Best wishes to all,

Julie

Greetings fellow daylily lovers and AHS members,

Thank you for visiting our Members Portal. We are working to make changes and updates so that you will want to visit more often.
Look for a new tab on the left side of the front page called "Administrative Files." This contains the working documents of our society as well as the 15 AHS Regions and any member is free to browse through this page, as we want to keep the working of our society open to our members. If you scroll down the page, you will see a section called "Regional Offices at a Glance." These are essentially summaries of job descriptions for the various regional offices. If you should be asked to accept one of these positions, you can quickly find out what the responsibilities of the job will be.

Also look under the "Contact Us" tab and scroll down to the flyout that says "AHS Robin contacts" and you will see email links to the leaders of all the AHS sponsored email robins, as well as other contact information for various AHS "go to" people.

Look for more files which pertain to "Members only" to be moved to the Portal in the future, and please come back to visit often. Be sure to visit the Community forms and post on items of interest to you.

The Portal staff is constantly looking for ways to improve this site, so please submit a "contact us" form or post in the top section of the forums if you have questions about this site. Also, please feel free to contact me or the Ombudsman for any other questions or concerns that are AHS related. We are here to assist you in our various capacities.

I look forward to seeing and meeting many of you at the upcoming MWS in a few weeks as well as the Region 2 Winter Symposium in February, or perhaps we'll meet along the "daylily trail" some other time this year. Please come up and say hi.

I'll close by posting a few images of this flower we all love. These were a few favorite blooms from the 2011 bloom season here in my Virginia garden.

Best wishes to all,
Julie Covington
president@daylilies.org
